The iM881A-XL is a compact and low-cost radio module that operates in the unlicensed 868 MHz band and combines a powerful Cortex® M0+ controller with the LoRa® transceiver of Semtech® Corporation. It has been specifically designed for battery driven devices. It consumes 28 mA in transmit with the maximum output power of +13dBm. Combined with an excellent sensitivity of down to -138 dBm a range of 12 km can be achieved in free space environment.
The iM881A-XL is pre-certified according the European RED guideline and can be soldered like an SMD component.

iM881A-XL LoRaWAN®
The LoRaWAN® protocol stack, specified by the LoRa Alliance®, is based on IBM’s LMiC and IMST’s WIMOD OS. It enables Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANS) for Internet of Things and Machine-to-Machine applications and supports Activation By Personalization (ABP) or Over The Air (OTA) activation.
The WiMOD LoRaWAN EndNode Modem HCI protocol is designed to expose the radio firmware services to an external host controller.
The communication between host and the radio (WiMOD) is based on so called HCI messages which can be sent through a UART interface.
Additionally, iM881A-XL can integrate the LoRaWAN® application on the MCU of our module using the open source code on Github, MBed OS or our LoRaWAN® Library (on request).
