The iM980A-L is a compact and low-cost radio module that operates in the unlicensed 915 MHz band and combines a powerful Cortex® M3 controller with the new LoRa® transceiver SX1272 of Semtech® Corporation. A sensitivity of down to -137.5 dBm and a maximum output power of +17.5 dBm results in a link budget of more than 155 dB. The iM980A has received Federal Communications Commission (FCC) CFR47 Telecommunications, Part 15 Subpart C modular approval in accordance with Part 15.212 Modular Transmitter Statement about FCC.

The LoRaWAN® protocol stack, specified by the LoRa Alliance®, is based on IBM’s LMiC and IMST’s WIMOD OS. It enables Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANS) for Internet of Things and Machine-to-Machine applications and supports Activation By Personalization (ABP) or Over The Air (OTA) activation.

The WiMOD LoRaWAN EndNode Modem HCI protocol is designed to expose the radio firmware services to an external host controller. The communication between host and the radio (WiMOD) is based on so called HCI messages which can be sent through a UART interface.

Additionally, iM980A can integrate the LoRaWAN® application on the MCU of our module using the open source code on Github, MBed OS or our LoRaWAN Library (on request).

The iM980A-L is available in two different versions:

iM980A-L US915

It has received the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) CFR47 Telecommunications, Part 15 Subpart C modular approval in accordance with Part 15.212 Modular Statement about FCC.

Additionally, this firmware is LoRaWAN Certified accodring the Specification for US 902-928MHz ISM Band
