The iM880B-L is a compact and low-cost radio module that operates in the unlicensed 868 MHz band and combines a powerful Cortex® M3 controller with the LoRa® transceiver of Semtech® Corporation. A sensitivity of up to -138 dBm and a maximum output power of +19 dBm results in a link budget of more than 156 dB. Even when reducing the output power to +14 dBm ranges beyond 15 km are possible in free space. It can be soldered like a SMD component.
This radio module is pre-certified according the European RED guideline and got Equipment Type Approval Certificate, which is mandatory to be imported and marketed in India.
It passed the Objenious, Orange™ and ThingPark interoperability test, which validates the performance of the iM880B in their LoRaWAN® network environment.

It’s available with two options of protocol stack:
iM880B-L LR Base
The WIMOD LR Base firmware is a collection of functionalities and applications like Radio Link Test, Sensor App, Data Link Service, etc. embedded in our powerful WIMOD OS operating system.
As an alternative to the LoRaWAN® standard the embedded radio stack allows direct module to module communication without the need for further LoRa® concentrator hardware equipment.
The WiMOD LR Base HCI protocol is designed to expose the radio module services to an external host controller. The communication between host and the radio (WiMOD) is based on so called HCI messages which can be sent through the UART.

iM880B-L LoRaWAN®
The LoRaWAN® protocol stack, specified by the LoRa Alliance®, is based on IBM’s LMiC and IMST’s WIMOD OS. It enables Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANS) for Internet of Things and Machine-to-Machine applications and supports Activation By Personalization (ABP) or Over The Air (OTA) activation.
The WiMOD LoRaWAN EndNode Modem HCI protocol is designed to expose the radio firmware services to an external host controller.
The communication between host and the radio (WiMOD) is based on so called HCI messages which can be sent through a UART interface.
Additionally, iM880B can integrate the LoRaWAN® application on the MCU of our module using the open source code on Github, MBed OS or our LoRaWAN® Library (on request).
