The increase of population in cities leads to a tremendous urban problem related to waste generation. According to the European Environment Agency, the total amount of waste generated in the EU increased by 5.1 % between 2010 and 2016.
The collection of waste is the most time and resources consuming process for waste management systems and Smart cities are leveraging the LoRa technology to create efficient solutions.
An example of a modern smart waste management system was developed by Abel Sensors in combination with our LoRaWAN® radio module iM880B. The Waste sensor measures fill levels in any type of container and provide all necessary data for monitoring, management and efficient routing of waste streams.
This reduces the excessive fuel usage and environmental pollution, as well as allows optimization of the utilities. Furthermore, the filling moment becomes predictable and the ‘near full’ alarm indicates the collection of the containers.
